Play It Strange Songwriting Competitions

The Play It Strange Trust was established in 2003 aiming to provide an environment to
encourage young New Zealanders to write and express themselves in songwriting and music.
The first National Secondary School Songwriting Competition attracted a nationwide response with
wonderful songs from young people throughout NZ. Each year we are impressed by the individual and collective talent of songwriters who share their world with us.
The 2010 Secondary School Songwriting Competition is proudly
supported by Lion Foundation.
This year there are 4 songwriting competitions in total;
  • Lion Foundation Songwriting Competition (our flagship programme)
  • Anthem In Black®
  • Peace Song Competition
  • Christmas Duet Songwriting Competition

Each competition requires you to be at secondary school level but you do not be
studying music as a subject.
You are also able to earn NCEA credits through the competition.

Other Awards given are;

The School Of The Year Award and
David Richwhite Lyric Award

There are fantastic prizes to be won! Find out more.
